High Performance/Paralympic Athletes

Individual high performance athletes competing in an Olympic, Paralympic or Commonwealth Games sport and discipline can access this scholarship program.

It offers financial and service benefits to athletes, on a case-by-case basis.

Country Athletes

Country Athlete Award funding is now available for athletes:

  • aged 13-18 years
  • performing at a high national level in Olympic, Paralympic or Commonwealth Games sports
  • who live permanently in a regional area, 130kms or more from the Adelaide GPO

Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program

The Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program is a unique and valuable program for young Australian athletes. Applications are now open for the 2019 Program – closing Monday 9 July 2018.

The Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program consists of:

  • One-on-one personal mentoring by an Inducted SAHOF Member
  • A $5,000 sporting expenses grant
  • On stage presentation of the Scholarship at the SAHOF Induction & Awards Gala Dinner
  • SAHOF Scholarship merchandise pack

The highlight of the program is that each Scholarship Holder is personally mentored by a Member of The Sport Australia Hall of Fame. Mentors have included over 50 Australian sporting greats including; Dawn Fraser AC MBE, Louise Sauvage OAM, Adam Gilchrist AM, Karla Gilbert OAM, Catherine Freeman OAM and Nick Farr-Jones AM.

The mentoring aspect is a 'money can’t buy' opportunity. It has delivered in many cases, a profound impact on our past and present Scholarship Holders.

Robert Gerard Emerging Athlete Development Fund

The Robert Gerard Emerging Athlete Development Fund Inc (RGEADF) was originally established in May 2007. Its charter includes the provision of support to next generation elite athletes, particularly those competing at the Junior/ Under 23 World Championship / International benchmark event. The program typically award grants ranging from $1,000 - $5,000 annually.

Athletes at the senior level who have not yet consolidated their position on national teams along with athletes with significant financial challenges are also encouraged to apply.

Australian Sports Commission - Local Sporting Champions

The Local Sporting Champions Grant is offered to young people aged between 12-18 years attending a State, National or International competition as an athlete, coach, umpire or referee.

Grants are offered to the value of $500 for individuals, and $3000 for teams.

Layne Beachley - Aim for the stars foundation

The Layne Beachley Aim for the Stars Foundation was created to inspire girls and women from 12 years old across Australia to dream and achieve.

The program offers ambitious and dedicated females an opportunity to receive financial and moral support to help them achieve their goals.

The foundation's support will give them the opportunity to maintain a determined focus on their goal, to achieve their dreams earlier in life and allow them to further their ambitions and aim for the stars.

Australian Sports Commission - Sport Leadership Grants and Scholarships for Women Program

The Sport Leadership Grants and Scholarships for Women program provides women with opportunities to undertake training to reach their leadership potential within the industry as coaches, officials and administrators.

Local City Council

Many local councils in South Australia offer financial grants and assistance to athletes in their council areas.

These can range from $50-$500 annually, depending on level of competition and age.
