SASI team looking for grand results
02 Feb 2017
Canoe sprint head coach Nathan Luce is expecting a testing few days when Grand Prix 2 kicks off in Sydney this weekend.
The event, to be held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC) in Penrith, will see the SASI team compete against athletes from most states in a variety of events. It will be between Friday, February 3, and Sunday, February 5.
Luce said it would be a solid hit out for his team with extreme heat on its way.
"I have heard the forecast is for very hot weather so that could make things very tough,'' he said.
"While the meeting is mostly for non selection (into national teams) the pairs are racing for selection for the juniors. Many of our team will be looking to finetune and to look to build on some good results from Grand Prix 1. Sean Lohse and Jayden Ellis, our top level crew, will be gunning for a top-two finish in their events.''
Francesca Kidd was another athlete looking to improve her ranking and is expected to line up in the women's Open K1 500. Callum Dunn and Matt Goble also will look for bold showings in the singles and doubles events.
Paracanoe duo Jocelyn Nuemueller and Sam Germein also will compete in the three-day event.
Grand Prix 2 is a key lead up to the 2017 Canoe Sprint National Championships.
That event, also at the regatta centre, is between March 5 and 9. The event will be used for selection into national teams.
