08 Jun 2017

PROMISING young SASI hockey athletes have been recognised for their efforts at the 2017 Australian Under-18 championships in Tasmania by winning selection in Hockey Australia's Futures Athletes program.

Fred Gray, Simon Wells and Emma De Broughe, all full SASI scholarship holders announced recently, caught the eye in Tasmania.

They are among a group of 27 boys and 27 girls selected in the program.

Before the Under-18 titles Fred and Simon competed in the 2016 All Australian Boys Hockey team which played three Tests against South Africa in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.

Emma, also an outstanding cricketer, is representing School Sport Australia on its Hockey International Tour which involved matches in Germany, Budapest and Hungary.

The Hockey Australia initiative was aimed at increasing the number of younger, developing players in the Under-18 age category and keeping them in high-performance programs mainly driven from their local state.
