Rising netball stars on show at AIS camp

SEVEN South Australian Sports Institute netballers are learning the finer points of the game at a national 17 and under training camp at Netball Australia Centre of Excellence in Canberra.
Nyah Allen, Lucy Austin, Chelsea Blackman, Georgia Dent, Tyler Orr, Olivia Watts and Tayla Williams are among 36 athletes at the camp.
For the first time a composite team of New Zealand netballers of similar age, are attending the camp to provide a strong opposition and a chance for the Australian team to work on match-day tactics.
The five-day camp, which began on September 25, was attended by each of the key state coaches.
SASI Netball Head Coach Jenny Borlase said the camp was a vital component of the players' development.
''The SA girls have settled in well and are learning a lot, enjoying different coaches and getting to know the other girls,'' she said.
''Because of the large group of 36, each girl will only play one game against the New Zealand side. It is great for their development and for them to get a taste of what international competition is all about.''
All SASI players are eligible for the under-21 national carnival in four years.
The camp is a vital part of the program to keep the athletes on the national path.
