FINETUNING and some competition will be the focus for the South Australian based athletes before they head to the shooting range as part of the Australian team for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games between April 4 and 14.
David Chapman, Dane Sampson, Will Godward, Alex Hoberg, Tori Rossiter and Emma Adams will make up the SA contingent as part of the 28-strong Australian team.
Shooting Australia's National Talent Coach- Rifle, Carrie Quigley said the National Centre of Excellence Rifle athletes based at SASI were busy preparing for a hectic time ahead.
''Everyone is working on their individual schedules and have already had their Commonwealth Games debriefing and training camp,'' Quigley said.
''Emma and Dane are heading to Mexico (Guadalajara, March 1-12) for the world cup where they will compete in individual events.
''They then come together in a mixed pairs competition which is a new event which won't be at the Comm Games but will be at the next Olympics for the first time. It looks like it will be a fun, different event and very interesting.''
''Then Emma, Tori and Alex will head to Sydney for the junior world cup which will run from mid March.
''Tori and Alex are very young at 16 years old but they are not new to international competitions. Both have a good head on their shoulders.
''And Dane, one of our most experienced members, is also shooting very well.
''It is going to be very exciting. From what we have seen athletes from Scotland, Singapore, India and England could be hard to beat.''
The Australian team has a strong mix of experience and youth.
Pistol shooter Chapman, a gold medallist at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, is lining up for his fourth Commonwealth Games.
Chapman will compete in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol.
Sampson has a hectic Games' program with the 50m 3Position Rifle, the 50m Prone Rifle and 10m Air Rifle, while Godward is in the 50m 3 Position Rifle.
Debutants Hoberg and Rossiter will compete in the 10m Air Rifle, while Adams, in her second Comm Games, also will line up in the 10m Air Rifle and the 50m 3 Position Rifle.
Australian team members are expected in Brisbane in late March to prepare for the Games.
