Star young netballers enjoy an Alexander masterclass
22 May 2018
PROMISING young SASI netballer Olivia Watts is determined to put into practice what she learned after the SASI Netball squads recent training session with Aussie Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander.
Alexander spent time recently in Adelaide with some of the future stars of the sport with various drills and words of advice.
Olivia, 18, who plays in various positions including goal keeper, goal defence and wing defence, said she loved the national coach's involvement with the group of young athletes.
"She worked on the basics of skills such as passing, position and stance,'' Olivia said.
"It was an extension of what we had been doing.
''One of the key things I learned was that you had to train with intensity.
''And in defence she said that it was important to keep your feet moving and to stand up tall.
''By moving your feet it confuses the space for the (their) midcourters moving the ball into attack.''
For Olivia it is back to her training and playing workload. She trains twice a week with her club Garville and plays on Friday nights.
She is also in the gym at least twice a week with the SASI program.
Alexander visits the various insititute netball programs throughout Australia for training sessions and workshops.
