AN AMAZING home crowd support played a big part in Matthew Carter winning a bronze medal with Domonic Bedggood at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Carter says.

The up-and-coming Australian and SASI star teamed with Bedggood to medal in the men's 3m synchro.

He said the fanatical home following could not be underestimated.

''It was the most amazing experience,'' Carter said.

''Words can't explain how it went. It was just insane. Every time our names were called, the crowd just went wild.

''With the 1m and 3m events I was feeling quite good but I was there mainly to learn and for the experience and to do the best I could.

''I learned so much like moving around and staying warm and not listening or watching other scores.

''Michel (coach, Larouche) was really happy with the way I went.

''Me and Dom are a fairly new team, giving it our best. It turned out really well even though we haven't been a team for very long.''

Carter was part of a successful Australian team which surpassed previous results with three gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

But there is little rest for Carter, 17, with a Grand Prix event in Calgary, Canada, between May 10 and 13.

He also is expected to compete at the Australian open diving titles, which also  double as the world cup trials, at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre, between May 23 and 26.

All things going well there he may be selected to compete at the FINA World Cup in Wuhan, China, between June 1 and 10.

In between that there is the tough slog of trying to mix training and competing with Year 12 studies at Pembroke School.
