Claire aiming for plenty of spring at World Cups

Star SASI athlete Claire Arthur is looking for a top showing when she competes in two trampoline World Cups in Switzerland this week and Japan in early August

TOUGH competition awaits outstanding SASI athlete Claire Arthur in trampolining competitions in the coming months but she is looking forward to mixing it with the best.

Arthur, 22, has been selected to represent Australia in two trampoline World Cup competitions in the next five weeks, finetuning her preparations with a training camp in Aigle, Switzerland.

Then it is off to Arosa, Switzwerland, to compete in the 50th Nissen World Cup on July 6 and 7 - the oldest international trampoline competition in the world.

There, Arthur will compete in the individual trampoline category against 40 female trampolinists from around the world and in the synchro with teammate and former SASI athlete Cassandra Hoare.

Arthur is hoping for a strong showing.

"My preparation wasn't ideal and a bit different to usual as our trampoline training facility at Marion aquatic centre is being renovated," Arthur said.

"My expectations are to complete two routines in prelims with consistent height and nice performance.

"A high goal would be to make the finals in the individual category. However many of the top athletes are competing in this World Cup. I am aiming to be in the top 18."

After this event Arthur turns her focus to Japan on August 4 and 5 and then preparing for the second world selection event in September which is the national club championship event. The world championships are in Russia in early November.

Then the business part of the program, preparing for the Tokyo Olympic Games, begins in February when the World Cup competitions become selection events for the Olympics.
