SASI stars help Aussies on road to world cup success

Paige Greco, with strong support from her SASI teammates, helped Australia produce excellent results at the recent UCI Para-cycling Road World Cups in Italy and Belgium.

IT has been a busy, but successful time for Australia as it has produced its immense talent at UCI Para-cycling Road World Cups in Italy and Belgium in recent weeks.

SASI athletes again showed their depth and class - playing a big part in the team's promising results where it finished fifth in Corridonia, Italy, with 12 medals.

Rising star of the Para-cycling scene Paige Greco won Australia's two gold medals in the Individual Road Race and Individual Time Trial, while Meg Lemon collected a silver in the IRR WC4 and bronze in the same category in the time trial.

Darren Hicks also made his way on to the podium with bronze in both the road race and time trial, while Grant Allen snared bronze in the MH4.

Travelling to Ostend, Belgium, a few days later the Aussies finished an excellent third on the medal tally of the 23 countries which won medals.

The team took home 13 medals with six gold, four silver and three bronze.

Greco continued her fine work to grab gold in the WC3 in the Individual Time Trial as did Hicks in the MC2.

Lemon picked up a bronze in the same event in the WC4, while Greco finished with bronze in the Individual Road Race in the WC3.

Greco said she learned a lot during the competition.

"I had a great time at my first two road world cups," Greco said. "I'm starting to learn how to ride my races both technically and strategically well.

"It was also really cool travelling with the team to some amazing places in Europe. My next step still needs to be confirmed but now it's back in to training.''
