Adelaide Thunderbirds set to defend premiership title

Reigning Super Netball premiers, the Adelaide Thunderbirds will host a home Grand Final tomorrow night when they take on the Melbourne Vixens at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

The side is eyeing back-to-back premierships after being crowned 2023 champions, when they were victorious over the Sydney Swifts.

Five South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) graduates are in prime position to line up for the T-Birds on Saturday night, where captain Hannah Petty, Georgie Horjus, Tayla Williams, Lucy Austin and Lauren Frew have all played a major role in the team’s success this season.

The Thunderbirds won all seven home games at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in 2024 and advanced straight into the Grand Final after winning their Major Semi-Final against the Vixens by a commanding 25 goals at 36ers Arena.

Records were broken on and off the court where the club reached its highest ever attendance in Suncorp Super Netball history in its move to the Entertainment Centre.

“It’s super special, the Pink Army have been so loud and so supportive all year, and the fact that we haven’t lost a game there is unreal to think about,” Petty said.

“The fans give us extra life and we just want to see the whole stadium painted pink come the big game and we want to do it for them.”
