Two shooters based in SA's Shooting Australia National Centre of Excellence - Rifle, have been selected for the Australian Olympic Team for Paris.

In the rifle events Dane Sampson has been selected for his fourth Olympics, while Jack Rossiter will compete at his third Olympics.

The athletes earned their selection through a gruelling nomination process which combined results from international and domestic competitions over the past six months.

The veteran of the team heading to his fourth Games, Dane Sampson will contest both the 10m Air Rifle and 50m Rifle 3 Position events.

“It’s a strange feeling the difference from the first Games and the fourth,” he said.

“The first felt like a dream come true where the fourth feels like a part of my life. None more or less meaningful, and all great experiences, but I feel this will be the most enjoyable one yet.”

27-year-old South Australian Jack Rossiter has made World Cup finals this year in both the 10m Air Rifle and 50m Rifle 3 Position events, and will contest both in Paris.

“This is my third Olympic Games and I feel that I am more prepared than ever going into Paris,” he said.

“2024 has been a successful season for me so far and I plan on carrying that momentum forward into Paris.”

Deputy Chef de Mission and four-time Olympian Mark Knowles congratulated the athletes on their selection.

“This team has a great breadth of experience and talent,” Mr Knowles said.

“Congratulations to each of the athletes on making this Australia Olympic team for Paris. Making one Games is special, but I want to acknowledge Dane, Elena and James, to continue to perform at such a high level over decades to make a third and fourth Games is a remarkable achievement.

“Thank you to the team at Shooting Australia, the sporting institutes and the coaches, families and supporters who have been there every step of the way for these athletes.”

Shooting Australia Chief Executive Officer Adam Sachs congratulated the athletes on their selection.

“This group has navigated a rigorous qualification and selection process to emerge as ‘the best of the best’ in Australia and they include some of the best Shooting athletes in the world,” he said.

“Australian Shooting has a strong, proud history of achievement at the Olympic Games and these athletes will help us to build on that legacy. We are delighted to be able to celebrate their selection to the Australian Olympic Team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. They go with our best wishes and the admiration of the Australian Shooting community and our nation.”
