Jesse Moore has made his mark in the FIG Apparatus World Cup series, the twenty-three-year-old claiming two bronze medals in Baku at the weekend.
Following his strong outing in the first event of the series a fortnight ago in Cottbus, Moore went to another level this week in the Azerbaijani capital as he stormed to bronze on both Parallel Bars and Pommel Horse.
The South Australian made a strong start to his competition, with outstanding performances across apparatus throughout qualifying. Headlined by his Parallel Bars routine, Moore (14.100) qualified in second place, behind only Japanese team Olympic medallist, Wataru Tanigawa.
On Pommel, Moore earned a 13.766 to qualify in third place ahead of Bulgaria’s David Ivanov via a tie-break. Not done there, the Australian made it a triple in qualification, as he locked away a spot in the Floor final too, his routine earning a score of 14.000.
Composed and confident under the bright lights of the Milli Gimnastika Arenasi come finals time, Moore improved his Pommel score from qualifying, finishing with 13.866, to win bronze.
A hard-fought final on Parallel Bars, Moore put up another impressive routine to finish with a score of 14.000. A score equalled by Ukraine’s Nazar Chepurnyi, Moore took out the bronze medal thanks to his execution of 8.900.
With high-quality results across the board in the Floor final, Moore’s score of 13.733 was enough to finish in seventh place.
The medals themselves particularly pleasing, Moore’s results in Baku also represent a positive trend.
Moore’s finals scores higher on both Floor and Parallel Bars this week than last, he continues to build throughout the World Cup series, gaining invaluable international preparation, with a Commonwealth Games berth in Glasgow firmly in his sights.
Due to current travel restrictions, Moore was the only Australian on the floor this week, but is set to be joined by Women’s Artistic stars, Breanna Scott and Kate McDonald in Antalya later this week, when the first Apparatus World Cup series wraps up.
